Here’s my story.
This past year, I had a rude awakening. I had always been a fitness enthusiast, but I fell off the “fitness wagon” after a few health set-backs.
I went from eating well with little processed foods and working out with a small group of ladies and our personal trainer 2x/week to eating crap and sitting still, a lot. I was in a bad place, but let me rewind a bit and start at the beginning.
Early in my life, I danced and ventured into athletics as I gained confidence. I was very active and one of my first college classes was a fitness class, at 8:30 a.m. no less! As I became a young adult, I realized that I loved to work out in my apartment with a “tape” and attend high-energy fitness classes.
That later translated into DVD’s, a long-standing but fairly unused gym membership, loads of classes, and eventually streaming workouts online through YouTube.
I also had (and continue to have) the great pleasure of working out with a personal trainer once or twice a week. However, I found myself wanting to keep moving everyday, and being a mom of three busy bees I didn’t always have time for a full-on workout session.
My interest was peaked by several friends working in the health and personal fitness coach world. I loved seeing their dedication, results, and the camaraderie amongst each other. I loved the community that they all had built. My favorite part!
I reached out to all of them, asked questions, and thought about it for a while. A long while… as in a few years. I saw other friends get results and thought, that I would give it a try. I filled out online membership forms, but never hit send.. I was 80% committed, but that wasn’t enough.
Then, I had to make tough medical decisions last year: keep my ability to have babies and my breasts, or save myself from possible breast, ovarian, fallopian, and other cancers. I am a BRCA gene mutation carrier. I have known for almost a decade.
After a few scares, I finally decided to do something about it and be proactive. It hasn’t been easy, but it was the best decision I could make for myself and my family given the information and risk factors I researched. After 5 surgeries in 6 months of 2016, I was in bad shape both physically, mentally, and nutritionally. Plus, my spirit was a little broken.
My college roommate posted online about these fabulous results she had after a year focusing on herself and her health. After seeing her results, I just had to give it a try. This time, I wanted in. As in all in. 100% committed.
I was hooked from the first workout and LOVE Beachbody On Demand (BOD). I think the 30 minute workouts give us (busy moms and dads) everything we need in a short amount of time and they still allow us to continue on with our day.
I also realized that eating the right amount of what my body needed was necessary for good health and a nutrient rich diet that I craved. The 21 Day Fix offered an easy and compelling way for me to stay on track and still eat what I loved. Plus, it got me back in the kitchen!!
You see, I had been so consistent with my workouts until I was derailed after my BRCA necessary surgeries. My personal training sessions, my BB Coach Robyn, Beachbody On Demand, and Shakeology really helped me get my fitness groove back and gave me renewed energy to focus on the good parts of my health.
I finally felt like I could move on and wasn’t waiting to heal any longer. I stopped focusing on what I couldn’t do and just did what I could do. And let me tell you, that alone feels amazing. I am stronger, healthier, and better in mind, body, & spirit than I have been in a long time.
